Restaurant Row – Maori Column

This piece is titled Maori Column and is by Alan Shepp.  It was done in 1985.

Shepp, along with his artist wife, lives in Napa California.  He has a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art, and an MFA from the University of Washington.

He is a multimedia artist who creates large scale sculpture and public art.

There is not a lot of information out there, either about this artist or this piece, but his website has some really gorgeous work on it.

    I got to thinking these must have some particular meaning to the sculptor…so I went to the website. Lots of good stuff, but it would be helpful if the artist made a few comments about each piece. Or, maybe the viewer is supposed to come to his or her own conclusions?

    Re your comment on CVDP…we sold a couple of old motorcycles, otherwise we would only would have made enough for a one night hotel stay.

    I like this as a piece of abstract public art that is human in scale.
