CCSF – Up Tight

This is titled Up-Tight #1 by Jaques Overhoff.  Mr. Overhoff has been in this blog before with a piece on SF City College campus.  Up-Tight #1 is painted concrete.  The name was to symbolize the stabilizing effects of the tension cables.  That made absolutely no sense to me until I found an earlier photo of the piece.

Obviously some restoration is in order for this piece that was installed in 1977.

  1. Yes – even in your older pic one of the guys has a broken arm. Too easy a target for vandals I guess!

  2. I’m glad you found the earlier photo because I couldn’t make any sense of it either.

  3. I agree that it makes more sense with the climbers, but then, is art supposed to make sense all the time? I hope they make the restoration to the piece.

  4. Thank you so much for visiting our blog and for your nice comment!

I love San Francisco (even though I’ve not spent much time there) and will enjoy your blog a great deal.

It’s funny but I thought the title of this sculpture was very appropriate as it looked to me like two people angry with each other! 🙂

    Glad that it’s been renovated.

My parents lived for years in Turlock and we’d always fly into SF on our way to visit them.
