“Designed to look like varied sizes of the Shovelnose Guitarfish, a species of the shark family living in the San Francisco Bay, these benches are meant for a human family to sit upon.”
According to Bruning’s website: Leslie Bruning was born in Syracuse, KS and raised in Nebraska. After studying at Graz Center in Austria, he graduated with BA-Art from Nebraska Wesleyan University. In 1970 he was awarded a MFA -Sculpture from Syracuse University. He is currently Chair of the Art Area of Bellevue University, Bellevue Nebraska.
Those look like they could be a bit hot to sit on on a sunny day!
I thought they looked like a bunch of really little people carrying a piece of metal around…and I agree with RedPat. Actually, they don’t look comfortable at all! 🙂 But then I don’t suppose sitting on a Shovelnose Guitarfish would be very comfortable, either!
Now that is something Ellie would love to have…she does love her sea animals!
At first I thought it was depicting a planaria, but that didn’t make sense. You last photo finally told me the tale. I can be so dense sometimes.
Bench, chair, seat, facing the ocean, that would be nice.
The craftsmanship is superb!
I love those centipede fish 🙂
So creative! I love this sort of thing!
These are really cool! They are so appropriate to sit on and look out onto the bay. Too bad they are not permanent.
