This student work is an enclosure for a utility box.The steel constructed sculpture offers a design that fits naturally in the surrounding environment.
It is located between Humanities and University Housing buildings.
Cities around the world are starting to use utility boxes such as these for public art projects, it would be nice to see more in the city of San Francisco.
It would be very nice indeed to see some art covering the many unsightly utility boxes that block San Francisco sidewalks. AT&T is the biggest offender. I wonder how easy it would be to get their approval for this…
Even better than the paintings one sees on these boxes in bigger cities, at least on this side of the border, though not yet in our small town. But then we don’t have a lot of these boxes here.
There are a lot of murals on them here but I’ve never seen a sculpture. Great idea!
This is great! I’ve seen it done in other cities as well. Sometimes the boxes themselves have been painted with various designs.
These are fun — I love the idea of decorating these boxes and making them something to look at!
I’ve seen utility boxes painted, but have never seen them decorated like this. Very ingenious.
